Repeated trip hazard - 25 Spencer Street, Rothwell
Reported via mobile in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category anonymously at 12:45, Monday 15 June 2026
Sent to North Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 9623307.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to report a concern outside 25 Spencer Street, Rothwell.
An electric vehicle is regularly being charged from a house using a cable that runs across the pavement. This is creating a trip hazard for people walking along the footway.
I am an elderly resident from an adjoing road with mobility problems, and I have personally tripped over this cable on two occasions. I have also seen other people stumble on it. Although, thankfully, no one has been seriously hurt so far, I am very worried that someone could be injured if this continues.
I find it difficult and unsafe to walk past when the cable is there, and I do not think it is suitable for a public pavement to be used in this way.
I would be grateful if someone could look into this and make sure the pavement is kept safe for everyone to use.
You're, in good faith
Mrs T

I am writing as a follow-up to my previous report about the electric vehicle charging cable outside 25 Spencer Street, Rothwell.
I have attached a photograph showing the cable running across the pavement. I thought it would be helpful to send this as further evidence of the problem.
As mentioned before, I am an elderly resident with mobility difficulties. I have personally tripped over this cable on two occasions, and I have also seen other people stumble on it. It is very worrying as the pavement is difficult and unsafe to walk along when the cable is there.
The situation is ongoing, and I remain concerned that someone could be seriously hurt if it continues. I would be grateful if this photograph and my previous report could be taken into account.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to add a further update to my report about the electric vehicle charging cable across the pavement outside 25 Spencer Street, Rothwell.
I am sorry to have to contact you again, but the cable is back across the pavement today. I have taken another photograph, which I would be grateful if you could add to my report.
As I mentioned before, I am an elderly resident with mobility problems and I have already tripped over this cable on two occasions. I have also seen other people catch their feet on it. It makes me very nervous when I have to walk past because I worry that the next person may not be so lucky.
I understand that these things can take time, but I am concerned because the problem keeps happening. I would be very grateful if you could let me know whether anything can be done to stop the cable being left across the public pavement, as I feel it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for looking into the matter.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs T
