Cracked path and large gap

Work on pathway has damaged our path, also large gap between our path and public footpath which is dangerous. Can these be repaired whilst the work team is still in the area as we are worried about falls. My husband has recently had a knee operation and is using a crutch/stick which could be caught in these areas.
