Yet another pot hole

This stretch (Northfield Avenue between the Asda roundabout and the Rockingham Road roundabout) of what should be a major road is now in an unacceptable state of disrepair. Much of the original road surface has deteriorated, leaving very little intact bitumen. The carriageway is heavily scattered with potholes and the surface is so uneven that it resembles a dirt track rather than a busy urban road.

The situation is having a serious impact on residents living along this section. When buses and HGVs travel over the damaged surface they create extremely loud noise and vibration, particularly at night, which regularly disturbs households along the road.

In addition to the disturbance caused to residents, the condition of the road also presents a clear health and safety risk. The potholes and broken surface pose a significant hazard to cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians, and could easily lead to accidents or injuries.

What is particularly frustrating is that several of these potholes were reported almost a year ago, yet the condition of the road continues to worsen.

Given the scale of deterioration and the impact on both safety and quality of life, I urge the Highways Authority to carry out a proper inspection and arrange for urgent repairs or resurfacing of this section of Northfield Avenue as soon as possible.
