  • Is it not possible to put up rails or bollards next to the drop kerbs to stop this happening? I have brought up this issue before, yet still, I have to walk past and watch this happen year after year. I have even felt the necessity to contact the police. When the vehicles are parked fully up on the verge alongside the zigzags , which of course is breaking the law. The problem seems to be at its worst on a Wednesday evening, which is probably the evening when the most number of clubs are playing football or training. I tried to attach several photographs, but I cannot see them. And I don't know if they attached correctly. At first I tried to attach seven , but thinking there were too many, I have just attached three , but I still cannot see them on this report. If you have not received the photographs , please let me know when I will try and send them via an email to the relevant office.

  • Investigation: Completed (No Action Necessary) - Thank you for your enquiry. It is not an offence to park a motor vehicle, with the exemption of a HGV, on a grass verge or pavement unless it is causing an obstruction or there is a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) in place prohibiting it. ... A Traffic Regulation Order will be indicated by either signs or road markings to show parking is prohibited.

Damage to highway verges from people parking and driving over them is widespread throughout the county and is particularly bad over the winter months due to the inclement weather as the verges do not have time to dry out.

It is North Northamptonshire Councils policy that wooden posts or bollards are only introduced where there is good justification on safety grounds, such as in the immediate vicinity of schools or shops where there is a high pedestrian demand. We are unable to accommodate other general requests for posts for aesthetic reasons due to financial constraints. If we introduced them at a particular location, which was not safety related, this would put us in a difficult position to defend why we had not installed them in other areas where we had received similar requests.

State changed to: No further action
