Sent to North Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 8842637.
I am writing to report the very poor and dangerous condition of the shared footpath/cycle path on Weldon Road in Corby.
The route runs for approximately 20–30 minutes on foot and is in an unacceptable state for much of its length. While a new path has recently been installed at the start of Weldon Road near the Tata Steel site due to ongoing factory developments, the condition of the path significantly deteriorates further along the route, particularly towards the lower end of the road.
As shown in the attached photographs, the surface beyond this point is heavily churned up with deep tyre tracks, mud, and standing water, leaving no clear or safe section for pedestrians or cyclists to use. The path appears to have previously been a designated cycle route, however it has worn away substantially and now requires proper resurfacing rather than temporary or piecemeal repairs.
I walk this route regularly to and from work and consistently end up with muddy, slippery footwear due to the condition of the path. The situation is particularly hazardous in wet weather and low-light conditions and presents a clear risk to pedestrians, cyclists, and those with mobility difficulties.
In addition, bushes and vegetation along the route are severely overgrown, forcing users further into the mud to pass. I have personally witnessed pedestrians having to snap branches in order to get through, and cyclists struggling to pass safely.
