Steps have been vandalised and the roadside trees and shrubs need cutting back
Reported via desktop in the Passage-Obstructed/Overgrown category by Francine Rainbow at 15:44, Tue 2 September 2025
Sent to North Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 8109350.
These steps have been getting worse over the summer months, many slabs have now been wrenched off by kids and smashed. To make things worse, there is no line of sight where the public footpath crosses this straight and fast section of the A6. A line of site needs to be cut on both sides, north and south for at least 100 metres. Motorbikes get up to speeds of over 100mph on sunny Sundays and bank holidays, when the FP is most likely to be used, it is taking your life in your hands trying to cross here. Anyone using it with poor hearing or eyesight, or who can only walk slowly would be in a very dangerous position trying to cross here. Also questioning why a stile is needed on the eastern side as it is an arable field. Is this authorised under S147 of the highway act? It is not easy to climb over.

It is almost 4 months since I reported the vandalised steps, and the desperate need for the cutting back of the side vegetation. You only have a window of 6 weeks before the bird nesting season starts, so the clearance needs doing asap, to provide a safe line of sight for users of the public footpath, crossing a very fast bit of the A6. As you will most likely need TM for this, it makes sense for the steps to repaired at the same time. If the steps haven't been repaired by the end of the 6 months period, then I will serve a HA S56 notice for the steps being out of repair.
