Blocked Drains in Laurel Road
Reported via desktop in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 11:17, Wed 23 July 2025
Sent to North Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 7920582.
As the managing agents for the residents of the block of flats on Laurel Road, we have previously reported this issue in May, and the answer was "it will be attended to as part of the cyclical cleaning programme". So far the residents have seen no one attend to deal with this. The pictures attached are of the situation following the storm on Saturday 19th July which clearly shows the road and paths flooded. we also have a picture of the extensive flooding to the council owned garages on Laurel Road. If the rain had continued for 10 more minutes then homes could have been flooded. A local councilor also attended the sight on 19 July and took his own pictures as a matter of record. We all know it is connected to the issues with the East Brook and it's inability to deal with amount of water it was not designed for. Following the extensive flooding across Kettering in August 2022 there were lots of publicity and meetings etc, but here we are, nearly 3 years on and everything has gone very quiet. Are the powers that be hoping we will all go away, pay ever increasing insurance premiums whilst they do nothing. Please at least have the blockages attended to in a timely fashion so we stand a chance of peoples homes not being destroyed again.

Resident called in about the drain, there is vegetation growing out of the drain, and they haven't been cleaned for 3 years. They are worried as this area has a history of flooding and their insurance is considering pulling out, leaving them without flood insurance if they get flooded again. some of the residents also have health issues and so are very worried about the potential of getting flooded again.

A further inspection of the area has been undertaken on 19 August 2025, and the drains are still full of vegetation which, if we have a sudden summer storm, will prevent water from flowing into the drainage system and again create localised flooding.
