  • Thank you for your response. However I find this unacceptable in the time scale and location. There is only one path that goes to the church, calecott and chelston rise. This will.mean for another 6 weeks during the school holidays and events at the church there is now no safe route to walk. The grass verge is uneven and the road too busy and unsafe. I have seen elderly people walking in the road to get to the church. Also dog walkers frequently use this path and also now walk In the road facing on coming traffic . If this is the case then a council highways diversion route needs to be done , as in when road works dig up a path as it is the same scenario. I would love to know which birds nest , as I e never seen any due to the fact there is open countryside all around this location with trees and brambles . I would appreciate your response to this as not having a safe path for 6 weeks is not acceptable and dangerous.

  • Investigation: Completed (Defect Found) - Thank you for your enquiry.

We have reviewed the site and fully acknowledge the concerns raised regarding pedestrian safety. While bird nesting season is a consideration, the safety of highway users takes precedence.

As such, a formal letter has now been issued to the landowner instructing that the vegetation be cut back to the property boundary, in line with their responsibilities under the Highways Act 1980.

We will continue to monitor the site to ensure the obstruction is resolved. The landowner has also been advised that additional cutback during the autumn/winter period may help avoid further contact next summer.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
