Pytchley bridleway bridge unsafe, broken board

Reported via mobile in the Bridge-Damaged/ Missing category by Clare bailey at 14:37, Saturday 5 July 2025

Sent to North Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 7813339.

The bridleway bridge has a hole in one of the boards and the first board is loose and moves, the approach to the bridge is so treacherous, and needs attention, one option is down a unsafe steep bank, it’s virtually a sheer drop, the other approach is just as unsafe as it’s not wide enough for a horse and extremely unsafe with protruding tree roots and a sloping bank that slips away into the stream and boggy area, in the wet my horse will slip and possibly fall. This bridlepath is a much valued safe route to ride to Pytchley and avoids having to use the road which is so fast and dangerous these days.

  • Investigation: Completed (Highways to Monitor, Routine Inspection Programme) - We can confirm that we are already aware of this matter, works have been instructed for the bridle bridge at this location to be replaced within the next 28 days. Please refer to FMS ref 7805881 for further updates. In regards to the surface conditions, unfortunately we cannot change the typography of the land, both routes are along a natural surface which will inevitably become wet and muddy during periods of wet weather. We can however confirm that we will monitor this matter.
