Pot holes on unadopted road
Reported via mobile in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 17:18, Wednesday 12 March 2025
Sent to North Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 7268907.
I am the managing Director of the Geddington Brickyard Garden, which can only be reached by the unadopted road at the north end of Wood Street in Geddington. We have already sent these photos and statements to Boughton House representatives and our local councillor. We are simply including this statement to ensure that the problem has been reported to all concerned authorities as advised by the above. Our charter states that the Brickgarden must be accessible, open 24/7 and any chance of future grants relies on those principles when it is arguably becoming less accessible each year. As an assessor, I cannot say that as it stands it is safe for small wheeled chairs, crutches, zimmer frames and certainly not for teenagers in whatever condition late at night.
With the already steady traffic of vehicles, dog walkers, horses etc., going to the Chase and damaging the remaining asphalt, it is only a matter of time before there will be an incident.
As well, we are hoping to expand the use of the Brickgarden for larger sectors of the community. I would love to work with the Northants Amateur Astronomers and have nightly gatherings during cosmic events. We’d like to hold another festival with live music this May. I start my wassailing nights there and even with flash light escorts, it is hazardous.
My understanding is that dangers must be reported and recorded by the interested parties, and that liability for an unadopted road is on the properties fronting the road. Also that warning signs or escorting people does nothing to reduce liability. Please record this complaint as we will move forward to try to get the responsible parties to work with us to get the needed repairs done before someone is injured or we lose our access to our own property.
