Damaged verges due to parked cars

Reported via mobile in the Verges - Damaged by Vehicles category anonymously at 18:36, Wednesday 5 February 2025

Sent to North Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 7092296.

Please can we get signs on weighbridge Way to stop verge parking. The grass has been diminished to mud and huge craters fill with water when it rains. It's unsightly and unnecessary as the road is wide enough to park on.

  • Investigation: Completed (No Action Necessary) - Thank you for making your report to us.

Unfortunately, although we sympathise with the situation, verge parking is not illegal; We are unable to stop members of the public parking without formal parking restrictions in place. As long as a vehicle is taxed, insured and parked without causing obstruction, they have the right to park on the public highway.

"DO NOT PARK ON THE VERGE" signs have been used previously to try and deter verge parking; However as these are advisory only, we were unable to apply fines or reprimand members of the public who did not abide by the signage. For this reason, we received regular reports stating the signage was ignored, vandalised or removed altogether leading to wasted resources, unresolved concerns and higher levels of residential tension. We are unable to offer this option at present.

Please report all damage to a new report, adding photos if possible. These reports are passed to our Maintenance Contractor who can inspect and assess the damage. The report will be reviewed within five (5) working days, and remedial works will be arranged if any safety issues are noted.

Thank you again for making us aware of your concern. This report will now be closed.
