Pavement covered by topsoil

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category anonymously at 12:20, Thu 31 October 2024

Sent to North Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. ref: 6679877.

Around 500 meters of pavement has been covered by topsoil and grass. This pavement was much wider when it was first constructed. Now this pavement is very narrow. Its been reported before and just 3 very small sections of around 10 meters were widened by about 100 mm. It would be good to unearth this pavement so that we can see the original width and people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters can use it once again. Its going to be necessary to clear and remove this topsoil. Its not going to cut it if this topsoil is simply piled up next to the pavement.

  • Thankyou , Its going to be important to unearth this pavement and remove the topsoil. What typically happens is the topsoil is tipped to one side so that it can run back onto the pavement. This then helps create more work in the future.

Looking at some historic photos , it looks like this pavement has been covered over for many many years. Its probably going to be worth investigation other areas to see if there has been a general lack of maintenance trend.

Just one more thing. The word fault doesn't describe the situation very well. What we have here is a simple lack of maintenance.

  • Just a photo to show the extent of the problem You can see there is a pavement but only half of it can be used. This was previously investigated and apparently all was in order. I first reported this during December 2023.

In the last year , i have spent just over £ 3000 in council tax and it would be great if I started to see a return in this investment.

If the average household is paying this type of money , you have to start wondering why we only have half a pavement.

  • Hi , Just checking on the update. I would also like to be included on how the grass and topsoil will be removed from this pavement. If the pavement isn’t going to be fully unearthed and the top soil removed from site then there is no point starting this job

If this isn’t going to be done properly then the topsoil will simply wash back onto the pavement and the problem starts over. The actual method statement will be able to confirm if the top soil will be properly removed or not.

  • I also see that this report was removed from the map.Its not fixed and it should remain.I first reported the problem around one and a half years ago and it was reported as fixed after a half baked attempt was made at removing just a fraction of the top soil and grass. I had to report again and I see it’s also been removed from the map.
